If a page on your website does not load, an error message shall be shown to the site visitor. As there are different errors, there are different pages which will show up, but what is standard for all of them is that they are generic and almost certainly shall have practically nothing in common with the layout of your website, which may be frustrating for any website visitor. This is the main reason why hosting companies have introduced a feature called Custom Error Pages. For a range of different errors, website visitors shall see your customized content, which could be informative or amusing, in accordance with your taste, and which shall match the layout of your Internet site, so the pages will not look like they are not part of your website at all. You can use this option for a variety of errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Web Hosting

The custom made error pages function is offered with every web hosting package that we offer and you shall be able to substitute all of the generic pages with your own with no more than a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia hosting CP. You'll need to develop the actual files and to upload them to your account, and then to set them for a particular domain or subdomain using the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP. You may do this for every website hosted inside the account separately, so that each group of custom pages will have the same design as the site it's part of. If needed, you may always go back to a default page from our system or to a default Apache server page. Another way to set custom error pages is to create an .htaccess file inside the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you never done this before, you could simply copy the necessary program code from our Help article on this subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All semi-dedicated hosting plans which we offer support tailor-made error pages and it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks inside your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel to use this functionality. The option is included in the Hosted Domains section of your CP where you will need to input the links to the custom-made files using basic drop-down menus and an intuitive interface. Keep in mind, you should upload them inside your account before that. In case you don't need to employ this function at some point, you could deactivate it just as quickly and choose an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be displayed if your visitors encounter an error. If you prefer, you may also use an .htaccess file to enable the personalized error pages. The file needs to contain a specific line of code plus a link for each error type and you can easily find an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
